Are bought followers real?
Lots of shops promise “real, active UK followers”. Here is what those words usually mean, why they rarely hold up, and what you are actually buying.
Short answer: bought followers are accounts that follow you because a service arranged it, not because they discovered and liked your content. Some look more convincing than others, but they will not behave like an audience you earned. We do not describe ours as real, active, British or high quality, and we would be wary of anyone who does.
What “real followers” usually means in sales copy
When a seller says “real”, they usually mean the accounts have profile pictures, names and some posts, so they don’t look like obvious blanks. That is a statement about how the accounts look, not about whether a person will watch your videos or buy from you.
“Active” usually means the accounts have posted or logged in at some point. It does not mean they will see your content, because the platforms show posts to people based on interest, and these followers have no real interest in you.
Why you cannot buy genuine UK followers for pennies
Think about the economics. A package of 1,000 followers for around £10 works out at about a penny a follower. No business can find, persuade and pay a real person in Bristol or Belfast to follow a stranger’s account for a fraction of a penny. Advertising on TikTok or Instagram to reach real UK users typically costs far more per person reached, let alone per follow.
So when a cheap package is sold as “real British followers”, the claim is not credible. The followers may include some UK-looking names, but you have no way of checking where the accounts are run from.
What you do get
- A higher follower or like number on a public profile or post.
- A stronger first impression for the real people who do find you.
- Some drop-off over time as platforms remove accounts they consider fake.
What you don’t get: comments, sales, watch time, or an audience in a particular country.
If you need real UK followers
The routes that bring genuine British followers are slower and cost more effort or money:
- Content made for a UK audience, posted consistently. See our TikTok guide and Instagram guide.
- Paid promotion inside the apps, targeted at the UK.
- Collaborations with UK creators whose audience matches yours (labelled as ads if paid; see the UK rules).
- Local cross-promotion: your shop window, receipts, your website and your email list.
A package can sit alongside those as a first-impression booster. It cannot replace them.
