TikTok likes or followers: which first?
They change different numbers in different places. Here is how to decide which one does more for your account, with three common UK examples.
Where each number shows
Likes sit on a single video, next to it in the feed and on the video page. Every viewer sees them, including people who will never visit your profile.
Followers sit on your profile, under your name. Only people who tap through to your profile see them, but those are exactly the people deciding whether to follow you.
A simple rule
- If strangers mostly meet you through a video (For You feed, shares, a promoted post), likes on that video do more.
- If people mostly meet you through your profile (a link in your Instagram bio, your website, a search for your name), followers do more.
Three examples
A Nottingham food truck
Customers scan a QR code on the truck and land on the profile. Followers matter most here: a profile with 1,000 followers looks like a business people actually visit. 1,000 followers at £11.99 is a sensible first step.
A musician promoting one track
The whole campaign is one video, shared around and boosted with TikTok’s Promote. Likes on that video, sized to its play count, matter more. Start with 1,000 likes at £6.99.
A new creator with one breakout
One video has 60,000 plays and the profile has 300 followers. Visitors are arriving but not staying. A modest follower package and likes on the pinned videos together tend to work best.
Budgets compared
| Budget | Likes option | Followers option |
|---|---|---|
| Around £5 | 500 likes, £4.99 | 250 followers, £4.99 |
| Around £12 | 1,000 likes £6.99 + 500 likes £4.99 | 1,000 followers, £11.99 |
| Around £35 | 5,000 likes, £21.99 | 5,000 followers, £32.99 |
Combining both
For most growing accounts, a mix works best: followers to make the profile credible, then likes on the two or three videos people are most likely to see first. Keep both in proportion to what your account already has, and keep posting; bought numbers support content, they don’t replace it.
